I had 5 retinal detachments affecting both eyes over 9 months. I was told I wouldn’t read beyond the third line of a sight chart. I got my driving license back in April 2016, 2.5 years after the second eye detached and tore for the 1/3 times. Mr. Habal carried out most of my operations and I believe the amazing eyesight I have now is due mainly to his ability as a surgeon and his post-op care and advice. My eyesight before the tears and detachments was not bad, a bit short-sighted and, amazingly, I feel it is better than before. I was so so lucky that Mr. Habal was my surgeon on the NHS.
I just wanted to say a big thank you to you for the amazing surgery you did on my detached retina. The gas bubble has just dispersed after 10 weeks and I’m amazed to have my vision back. Not only that I wanted to thank you for your respect towards me before, during, and after surgery, it made such a difference, helped me feel more relaxed and informed about what was happening to me, especially as it was a ‘local’ operation which was quite a scary prospect for me.
